Senje Wekoye is the heartbeat of the Universalist Community of Hope’s global outreach. More than just a program, it is a sacred ministry dedicated to weaving a tapestry of support, advocacy, and relationship between women and children across the globe and those who feel called to walk alongside them.
The Meaning of "Senje"
In Luhya heritage, a Senje (Auntie) is a cornerstone of the family. She is a protector, a teacher, and a communal mother. She is the one who ensures that no child goes hungry and no woman walks her path alone. By naming this ministry Senje Wekoye, we honor this tradition of "Auntie-hood"—a commitment to fierce, nurturing love that transcends borders.

We believe that true healing comes through relationship. Senje Wekoye serves as a bridge, partnering with small, community-based organizations (CBOs) that are doing the grassroots work of supporting women and children in their local contexts.
We don't just offer resources; we build kinship ties. We work to:
Empower Local Leadership: We partner with CBOs that are led by the communities they serve, honoring their wisdom and autonomy.
Foster Global Connection: We create direct lines of relationship between supporters and the women and children on the ground, ensuring that every contribution is rooted in mutual respect and shared humanity.
Nurture the "Inner Light": In keeping with our values, we recognize the inherent dignity and Divine Light within every child and every mother, regardless of their circumstances.

The Pot and the Broom: Symbols of nourishment and the daily work of keeping a home and community clean and safe. They remind us that service is often found in the simplest, most essential acts of care.
The Traditional Patterns: A reminder of our roots in Obulala (Unity) and the ancestral wisdom that guides our steps toward justice.
